Tips for Homebuilding successPut everything in writing. Use change orders and purchase orders, and make certain you get lien wavers. Be fair. Pay subs and vendors what was agreed upon, on time. Always get recent references. Check the references, you must see the work of the sub. Shop carefully for the best material and labor prices. Remember - cheaper is not always better. Rely on your contractors for advice in their fields. They have more experience. Assume nothing. Material is not on site unless you have seen it and verified it as correct. Subs do not know what you want unless you tell them in writing. Keep changes to a minimum Estimate on the high side and keep a contingency fund Know your local building codes Stay ahead of the game to allow for material delays or the replacement of subs Use the best materials you can afford.
